Kate, if the doctor can't or hasn't told you why your lymph nodes are swollen, you should definitely get another opinion. Clearly there's something going on that's making them swell; usually it's a sign of infection or something else your white blood cells don't like. I'd pursue this if I were you; either make the doctor do more tests to ascertain what's up, or ask for a referral to another doctor for a second opinion. Good luck - PJH

Hi there,

First thing, is your doctor a surgeon or an oncologist?  Secondly, even if he is the top doctor in whatever specialty,  you should seek a second or third opinion until you feel comfortable.  I went to see one of the top breast surgeons in Northern Virginia and I was still mis-diagnosed, my lump doubled in size and I had to insist on a biopsy, or I might be pushing up daisies right now, who knows.  I'm not saying you have breast cancer or any other cancer.  It could be anything. All I'm saying is that you know your body best and you need to be your best advocate.  Don't settle unless you feel 100% okay with your decision.

Cheers,

Maimah
