small lump in my breast, can someone help
im 19 years old. I found a small lump just on the inside of my left breast, significantly near the armpit two days ago. Its not at all painful but i have made a doctors appt anyway as its not been there before. I regularly check my breast and i have never had a lump, even whilst menstruating. I dont really know what to think. What could it be. I also have the left nipple pierced, however that has been there for nearly a year and i have had no problems with it. Can someone help.
Kelly, there are several types of breast lumps. It's good that you have made a doctor's appointment. Only a doctor can diagnose what type of lump this is, but most lumps are benign. Try not to panic about this, but do keep that appointment with the doctor.

Hi Kelly,
Please remember that most breast lumps are not cancer. And breast cancer is far less common in someone as young as you are. That being said, it is always wise to see a doctor when you do notice a change in your breasts. Until you know for sure, please try and relax (easier said than done, I know). Try to keep busy (I found that really helped me).
Good luck and do stay in touch, OK?

Hi Kelly - I think it's great that you regularly check your breasts, they are yours and you should know them well.
The lump you found could be a number of things, either a cyst, a type of tumor or even a possible lymph node as you said it was near your armpit.
Lymph nodes are bean shaped nodules in your armpits, chest, neck and groin. They help transport nutrients and rid the body of waste. If you have an infection of some sort it is possible that they can swell to a size large enough to be felt.
your doctor will help you rule out what it is by doing a mammo or ultrasound or both.
I suggest taking a sharpie marker and circling the area in which you found it. That way you can track it carefully till your appt. and it will also make it easier for you to show the dr.
Keep in mind that you are bit young and your breasts might still be going through changes - though I am sure you're out of puberty by now, but still hormones do strange things.
Good luck to you, and please let us know if you need further help!

Hi Kelly,
I'm so glad that you're going to see your doctor. Most breast lumps are harmless, but all breast lumps need to be evaluated by a medical professional. I am living proof that early detection saves lives. I found a lump 4 months ago, and it turned out to be breast cancer. Fortunately, I caught it very early, and now I am cancer-free.
I actually had an issue with a doctor telling me that it was nothing and that I should wait six months and have a recheck. I think he told me that because of the fact that I'm under 40 and don't have a family history of breast cancer. I am VERY glad that I followed my gut instinct and got another opinion. All this is to say that ultimately, YOU are responsible for making your healthcare decisions. If your doctor doesn't take you seriously, get a second opinion!
I hope that everything works out for you, and I'm wishing you continued good health!
Brightest blessings,
LanieBird
