Q: I am scared.

i can express cloudy liquid with some dark (black) liquid from my left breast, i have had a hysterectomy 2 years ago could this be a sign of breast cancer. I am 39 years old and I am concerned about this, would this be crazy to go to the md about this.

Donna, many women experience nipple discharge, and the vast majority of the time it's not from breast cancer, but from some less serious cause. Read this good article from the Mayo Clinic on nipple discharge; I think it'll make you feel better. At the same time, it's NOT crazy to ask your doctor about this! Being aware of breast changes, and finding out what they are, is always a smart thing to do. Good luck - PJH

Hi Donna! In my experience it almost always makes me feel better to go to the doctor! My worse fears are seldom as bad as whatever reality proves to be.

As PJ said, there are many things that can cause nipple discharge. You would most likely find a visit to your doctor to be very reassuring.
