MY STEREOTACTIC BREAST BIOPSY SHOWED A BENIGN COMPLEX CYST WHICH MY ONCOLOGIST SAID IT WOULD BE NECESSARY TO HAVE IT SURGICALLY REMOVED AS THIS IS THE TYPE OF CYST THAT COULD BECOME MALIGNANT. i JUST WANT TO KNOW IF THIS WOULD REQUIRE HOSPITALIZATION OR IF THIS IS AN OFFICE PROCEDURE?

Pat, a  lumpectomy is generally what they call "same day surgery" - you check in, get gowned up, etc., just as you would with any surgery. It's done in an operating room, under anesthesia. Then they keep you for awhile, till you've woken up from the anesthesia sufficiently, and then you go home. So, at least at our hospital here, it's not an overnight hospital stay, but it IS more than an office procedure. Good luck - glad they found that cyst early! - PJH
