Because the soreness and tenderness is in both breasts, it's very unlikely that this is a breast cancer symptom.  It sounds more hormonal except for your generalized fatigue.  If you are not running a fever, you could take some extra naps and see if you feel better before you call the doctor.  Sometimes if you watch and wait a few days, you have more specific information to give the doctor.  However, if you aren't feeling better within a week, it will be time to go in and get checked.  I hope you get good news from the doctor.

Ok maybe you can help me.  I have had the "tingeling" soarness and tenderness in both breast.  My bfriend and I have not used protection in 3yrs because he had a vacectomy 10yrs ago.  He went to doc 2yrs ago and they said he had no "swimmers". I just had a light period the end of last month.  Have had other symptoms...moodiness(crying spells), tired.  I have a daughter and breastfed so i know what that feels like...the same as i feel now.  All this and took a preg test that came back neg...what is goin on with me?

Doesn't sound at all like a symptom of breast cancer, especially being in both breasts. Sounds totally hormonal to me - I think you should speak to your doctor about this. Good luck - PJH

You shouldn't worry, but if you're feeling something different than the usual fullness and let down sensations from nursing, you should check with your doctor.  You might just have a clogged milk duct, but you also might be starting some type of infection.  You should always have any change that's just in one breast checked out if it lasts longer than a menstrual period.

Thanks alot for replying, i really appreciated ur concern, yes it feels the same but its not getting any better even after my baby was fed from it, so i went to er and i made a check up with a general doctor, she made a physical examination to my breast, and with my history, she said the same thing as u said, that gave me a releif, she gave me an antibeutic, and pain killer, and told me to make warm water compresses, and also to wear bra during the day, coz idont while am at home, thats all for 5 days if i didnt get better, she will make an xray!!!!!!!

ill get back to u for updates and for more consultations!!!!!!!!!!thanks.

I hope the antibiotic solves your problem.  If it doesn't, be sure to go back to the doctor for a follow-up.

Could be pregnancy, even though your test came back negative - was it a home test? If so, get a doctor-administered test, OK? Since this is a breast cancer site and these aren't cancer symptoms,  we can't really help you with this; we're not medically trained, just well-read breast cancer survivors. So I'd suggest you speak to your doctor; whatever this is, it sounds hormonal. Hope you're feeling better soon - PJH

I've read your letter again and thought of another possibility you need to consider.  As you mention, many of your symptoms are typical of early pregnancy.  Did you know that it is possible to be pregnant and still have a period?  It happened to me with my first child.  I had two light periods after I was pregnant, the second lighter than the first.  As for the IUD, no contraceptive method is 100% effective.  I don't know what is causing your symptoms, but maybe you shouldn't completely rule out pregnancy as a possibility.

I have having similiar problems. Had my tubes tied 3 years ago. My cycle has always been like clock work. Just finished a shorter than normal cycle about 10 days ago. A few days later, breast have become extremely tender, cramping, had sex 3 days ago and spotted after words. Have also felt some type of flutters in my stomache, a little pull inside on what seems to feel like my belly button. Took HPT came back negative. Any suggestions on what the heck might be going with my body?????

Pregnancy seems unlikely.  Each of the three "I couldn't be pregnant" signs you mention can fail, but all three?  It sounds like you need to check with your doctor.  I wouldn't want to try to guess what is going on, but your doctor can do an exam and maybe order some tests.  With the tender breasts and the abdominal symptoms, it sounds like something hormonal.  Let us know what you find out.

Maria, if the soreness and tingling is in both breasts, then the problem is not likely to be breast cancer.  IUD's are a reliable form of birth control, but no form of birth control works 100% of the time.  It would be a good idea to check with your doctor to see if you might be pregnant or if you have some other sort of hormonal problem.

Hi my name's Elizabeth,

I was googling sore breasts and ran across yours. I've also had sore breasts for about 3 weeks, I've also had my period for the past 2 months. What had me worried now is i've had some "old" blood or inbetween bleeding, not really bleeding. I had my tubes tied in 2004 after 4 c-sections. I'm way to scared to go to the doctor and besides also being tired and crabby I feel normal otherwise. So if for some reason you get a good answer or go to the doctor please reply so i may know what i'm looking at. Maybe we should go get a preggo test and see what happens. I would love to have another baby I just would be worried an eptopic pregnancy would accure. I will check back in to see you if you get any answers. Good luck,Elizabeth

Hello Elizabeth, I googled sore breast and found your comment and I am experiencing the exact same symptoms you described even the old blood. But my period seems to be lasting 2 weeks some days strong some days no blood at all.  I thought I can find answer as to why but haven't found anything, but it seems that I am experiencing the same thing you once experienced.  Did it ever go away and did you ever find out what caused it. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Hi - Have you called a doctor or clinic to ask about this? Sounds like you might be having a hormonal issue of some sort. Only a doctor can give you a firm diagnosis and the treatment you need, so I'd suggest making the call soon, OK? Even though it's expensive - so is a serious health problem, one that might be headed off with early intervention. Best of luck to you - PJH

OMG jst been confirmed 1 hour ago yes 5 weeks pregnant.  dont know whether 2 be excited or not i have always wanted another child to add to the 3 i have but just not yet. My youngest son starts school next yaear in Jan and i was so looking forward to being free  for 6 hours a day anyway( al kids at school). As mentiomed in my post i do have an iud in place (so what do we do i know its not 100% but it is 99.9 we as women never ever think that we could become one of those 1%. The doctor tried to do an internal and cant seem to find the IUD hence reason why i fell pregnant. He says thats it will be in the uterus (hopefuly asnt fallen out earlier) and will become embedded in there and come out in the birth. In saying that she aso says that there is a high possibility that i could suffer a miscarriage due to the IUD. She reckons there are slight chances that i could carry to full term without complications (notice she said 'slight'. Ive got mixed emotioms right now i called my husband and he came home right away and he got in bout 40 mins ago ive told him and he burst into tears im shocked at how hes taking it coz hes the one who also did not want another child yet and now he says he cant wait he still crying as he sits next to me cuddling me as i type and says hes happy as larry BUT now were both worried and im trying to tell him not to get our hopes up as we have a high chance of miscarriage. What do we do, we rely on these birth controls never thinking wed become one of the 1% where the birth control fails but then now we also have to suffer again because of the iud we ould miscarry which brings more pain and suffering i really dont know. I am overjoyed now just thinking about it and am still crying as i sit here typing im scared to lose my unborn baby and im also scared to carry it fl term and give birth knowing there could be complications also and maybe even stilbirth al because of what the IUD that i trusted. Im scared scared and scared i dont know what to do. Abortion is out of the question always has and always will so yes i guess we al have to remember that sometimes we can become one of those 1% that prove the IUD wrong which we never thin about, I am 25 married to a wonderful guy have 4 beautiful kids aged 10, 8 & 4 and now i have to put up with this.

I hope i havent been to sarcastic and havent hurt any other women in this post, In my 3 prior pregnancies ive never had any complications at all whatsoever cariied all full term al natural drug free births and now to the worst thing of my life.

I asked to take the iud out but they cant find it and wont anyway saying that by also doing that WILL cause miscariiage straight away!!!

I dont know where my head is right now but all i can do is look after myself do everything right and just WAIT AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS.. I hope and pray to God this all goes well and im able to carry and give birth to another healthy bouncy baby for the 4th time

Thanks to all  the ladies who have replied especailly to the lady who was the same as me and wanted to know what my outcome was at the doctors well darl here it is

I highly suggest yo get yorself to the doctors ASAP we will never know otherwise good luck and take care if you do decide to get checked out please let us al kow how u got on

Take care everyone

EVelynCoolCryFrownYell  yes im experiencing all these

I know this is kind of late any you already know what is going on but i wanted to let other people know that may find there self in the same position

I dont know why your doctor would tell you it is still in you or that you only had a slight chance to carry the baby. I had an iud for 3 years when i got pregnant with my last. When i went to my doctor she couldnt find it she said it may still be in there or it may have fallen out and i didnt notice but not to worry untill i had the ultrasound to check she also told me that if it were still in still in there it she wouldnt try to remove it because that may cause a misscarrage and it may cause complications but they usually get dilivered with the placenta. I had to wait 2 weeks for the check it seemed really long but when i finally got in there and they did the scan my iud was no where to be found i know it was there the month before my period had been werid and i checked after i though it was over and it was there and then i had bleeding and cramping for annother day i didnt think to check because i already had i guess that it when it came out. I now have a happy healthy 17 month old baby girl. Doctors should give you the facts but the shouldnt take away your hope if they dont know what is going on.

Hello,

I was surfing google to see what the problem with my sore breasts were also and ran across your post. I am 44 years old and recently had to go to the hospital with severe pelvic pain that they said was due to a cyst on my right ovary and endometriosis. I had my cycle on the 17th of last month and it didn't seem quite as normal as the others. It was more light and different colored. I have not been on any birth control as I was told by my husbands mother that he cannot make any kids but couldn't give me an explanation as to why. He had cancer surgery back in 08 and had to have chemo and radiation. I think that made him sterile for a while, but do not feel like he is now. Your gonna freak when I tel you his age! He is a wonderful man of the age of 52. By the time our child graduates, we will be in nursing homes. Lol Do you have any comments as to why I would be having these same symptoms? I tood a home pregnancy test but it came back negative as I thought it would. I was told that I couldn't test until I missed my cycle. I have sticky discharge from both breasts too I've noticed but it's not bad at all. I just feel drained all the time and want to sleep all day and my breasts are so sore that even bras are uncomfortable. I was weighed at the dr last month and noticed that I had already gained 4 pounds. I stay around 121, but weighed 125-126 last time. Is it possible for me to be pregnant? PLEASE HELP as I'm having a hard time dealing with having to wait til Dec 12th for my ob/gyn appt that the hospital made. The hospital never did a pregnancy test because I told them I started my cycle. Is it possible that Im feeling early pregnancy symptoms this early after just having a cycle last month? I pray you or someone gets my reply as I'm having a hard time dealing with this. I've always wanted to give my dear husband a child but gave up after years of trying. He has no biological children so I've shared my two children with him. I even have a 5 month old grand daughter now by my 21 yr old daughter and my son is now 26. Sounds simply crazy that I'd be pregnant at 44!!!! Please HELP and I NEED some advice so bad!!!! Anyone out there with any comments, I would GREATLY appreciate the feed back. Wishing you all the best of health and healthy babies. P.S. The only time my breasts were ever this sore was when I was pregnant with my son in 1987. God bless you all. Idette Lexington, NCSmile

Idette, This is a breast cancer site, so we are not experts on pregnancy issues.  Yes, it is possible to be pregnant at 44, and it is possible to have a light period or some spotting while pregnant, and sore breasts can be a sign of pregnancy.  It is also possible that early menopause could be causing changes in your periods and breasts, in which case you might not be pregnant at all.  It sounds like you are going to need to wait a little longer to get a definitive answer.  I hope you get the news you want to hear on Dec. 12.

I was googling sore breasts after period.  I am 33 years old.  After stopping nuvaring, I had my period a week later.  My breasts are always swollen when I am taking birth control, but the swelling went down within a few days of stopping birth control.  They swelled again as usual when I started my period.  My period was normal flow but only lasted 4 days instead of the usual 6.  My breasts are still swollen even larger and a little sore a week after my period.  I don't know if my hormones are messed up or if I'm pregnant.  Also, my mother had iud and it fell out.  That is how she became pregnant with my younger sister. :)

I too have achy breasts, they are a bit swollen and today noticed some leakage.

I am 41, both of my tubes are gone after 4 c-sections, so I know I'm not pregnant.

But what in the world could this be?  I am mid cycle right now, this is very uncharacteristic for me.

Kitty, if both breasts are sore, this is probably hormonal. Sore breasts are often a sign that you're about to get your period, or that you're pregnant. Are either of those true? PJH

my breasts are soo soare its painfull!!! when i take of my bra the pain is too much, and im mid month for a period. I am nearly 40 and have had other symptoms like pains i my head and the specialist has said it is the start of my menopause!!! Ok, so i have excepted that, but what about my breasts my period is not due for a couple of weeks, but both are sore all day from when i wake up till i go to bed. I am going to get a sports bra to sleep in so that i can move witout carrying/cupping my breasts. im not woried but want an answer maybe its a hormonal thing with the menopause. is this mormal for the menopause  - i hear that the menopause can go on fro 10 years, have youheard of the breast hearting all this time. Cause they are sore during the period too, so there is very little let up!!!! looks like i will have to live on ibruprophen for the forseeable future.

ANyone who is experienceing the same thing to let me know

Also im having vagina spasms!!!

Oh my goodness, this sounds VERY uncomfortable! While it doesn't sound like a breast cancer symptom, you should get it checked out- perhaps there's something the doctor can give you (more than ibuprofen) to ease the pain... Good luck - PJH

I have the exact same symptoms that you are experiencing since I was 45yrs old.  The only thing  that helped me was an iodine supplement Iodoral (between $35-$68).  I bought it onlline from the breastcancerchoices.org   This website also has important information about how iodine deficiencies impact your health.

After taking it about 1 week my symptoms completely dissappeared, I also had more energy.  I continued taking it for about 3 months and stopped.  That was about 7 months ago--so I had a 10 month respite.  After I finished 2 bottles of Iodoral I started taking a multivitamin that contained 100% RDA of Iodine.  Now I am just beginning to have the same extremely painful experience again.  When I finish this post I am going to order more Iodoral.

Check it out, discuss it with your doctor, maybe this will work for you.  It's the only thing that didn't mask the symptoms (pain killer), it actually corrected the problem.  My breasts returned to their regular painless, unfull state.  It was wonderful to be able to lay on my stomach again (or back, or side it all hurt).

Good luck to those of you suffering silently with this undiagnosed but obviously prevalent condition. I hope this helps some of you.

Hi Pamela - we're not doctors here, only well-read breast cancer survivors, and we can't diagnose your problem; only a doctor can do that. That said, this sounds very hormonal, since it's happening in synch with your period. If it's happening in both breasts, not just one, it's almost certainly nothing to do with breast cancer, so please don't stress too much about that. But do see a doctor; any breast change lasting longer than a month should be assessed and diagnosed by a doctor. Good luck - PJH

Susieb, it sounds like some sort of hormonal changes might be going on since it seems unlikely that you are pregnant.  If the sensations of fullness and milk let down are in both breasts, breast cancer is probably not the problem; nevertheless, if this has lasted longer than a month, you need a doctor to find out if another sort of underlying health issue.  I hope you can soon find some answers.
