Louise, any change in your breast is something to be concerned about. Since you have an inverted nipple, you're already experiencing an abnormality, long-standing though it is. Now, with something new happening (itching), it might be wise to go get it checked out. An itchy nipple generally isn't a sign of breast cancer, but it's worth it to find out what's going on nonetheless, OK? Good luck - PJH

Hi Louise,

I just wanted to add that the fact that your nipple has been inverted for a long time is a better sign than if this were a sudden/recent change. My advice is the same as PJ's though - best to go to a doctor, if only to be reassured that all is well.

My 15 yr old daughter had some clear discharge from her breast (she didn't think it came from her nipple) and it itched and there was a lump before the discharge.  I took her to her doctor and she said it was nothing to worry about.  At 15, their breast are growing.  Well that was three days ago.  Now my daughter just came to me and said her breast hurts now and her nipple is now inverted.  I didn't feel comfortable with the doctors response earlier in the week and now I am beginning to really worry. I know I should take her baclk to the doctor  but should I take her to her same doctor that said it was nothing to worry about?

Hi - Perhaps you should call the doctor, and describe this new symptom. If s/he still says "nothing to worry about," then best to get another opinion. Your daughter may have an infection starting. At her age, the chance of her having breast cancer is about 1 in a million; so please don't stress too much about that. But this is definitely something worth getting looked at and treated, if necessary. Good luck - PJH

Thanks for your response.  I actually took her back to the doctor today and her breast is red and inflamed like it is infected.  The Doctor precribed us antibiotics and we are going back on thursday.

GOOD. If the antibiotics don't work, pursue it; don't let it drop. This needs to be diagnosed and successfully treated, whateve it turns out to be. Good luck to you - PJH
