Q: Runny nose post chemo

Ever since ending chemo for breast cancer 2 years ago, I have been bothered by a runny nose. I'm not sick, and have no allergies to speak of.   It's hardly life threatening, but it's a nuisance.  I've never heard of this as a side effect, but the timing makes me think it's likely.  Has anyone else experienced this?

Debbie, I think you'd find that many of us have long-lasting chemo side effects that never appear in any list of side effects! I'd bet the runny nose has something to do with chemo's destructive effects on your mucous membranes; for whatever reason, yours in your nose haven't recovered. Have you asked a regular doctor (not your oncologist) about possible treatment? As you say — not serious, but certainly annoying! I'd ask an ear/nose/throat specialist about this. Good luck - PJH

Debbie, are you sure that you haven't developed allergies?  I didn't have allergies before chemo, but I have developed them since treatment.  I agree that the timing does suggest that this is a chemo-related side effect and that you should check with a general practice doctor or ENT for possible solutions.

My nose runs every time I eat. I do have allergies but take Claritin D and still have the runny nose since I started chem in May. Two more rounds to go.
