I've been through reconstruction several times.  The first on my right failed due to a large hematoma.  I lost an area of skin due to the tissue dying.  It ended up healing just fine with time.  The second failure was on my left side.  The skin started dying, so I was given this green ointment that ate away the dead tissue which left me with a quarter size hole in my chest.  Since you could see the implant through the hole my surgeon popped it and pulled it out.  I had to wait 3 months for the hole to heal from the inside before he would sew it shut.  After a few more months of healing he put another tissue expander in.  Because there had been a hole in my chest, I ended up with a large clump of hard tissue.  When the expanders were swapped out for the implants, my surgeon removed the hard tissue which left my left side a bit bumpy.  It's been 3 months and it still has not smoothed out, so I'm going to ask him to re-do that side.  Aside from feeling lumpy, my left side sits low and out compared to my right side, which has damaged skin due to radiation.  I'm hoping that one more surgery will be able to correct it.  It's a long time consuming process, but hang in there.  Things will work out.

Good luck!
