Q: small lump on right breast please help

Hi i am 22 and have two kids, i found a small lump on my right breast the only reason i noticed it was because i notice a little dark patch of skin i mean really small like spot sized but i hadnt noticed it there before it is not a stretch mark it kind of looks like a really small birth mark, that was about two months ago, i have now noticed another dark patch just under my breast by my arm pit i cant feel a lump there but this patch has a dark rim on outside then a light bit then in the middle a darker bit (sorry cant explain!!) the actuall patch is very small you prob would not really notice it i just can because i no it wasn't there before, i dont have any pain, but on my other breast i do have some dry kind of scaley skin under breast but this cannot all be affected can it? I have not been docs just because i spoke to one on the phone before i noticed skin patches and dryness and she said i am so young the chances of it being anything serious are slim to non, sorry it is so long, please could you help me and tell me what you might think it is? thank you very much.

Hi - I'd say the skin issues on your breasts aren't related to one another, but if you've found a lump - no matter how small - you need to keep an eye on it. If it doesn't go away within a month, best to see a doctor. Yes, the chances of it being cancer are very slim indeed. But you still need to rule it out. Please read our post on breast lumps for lots of helpful information.

As for the flaky skin and patches, keep your eye on them, too; if they get noticeably worse (larger, painful, or if  either breast becomes red or swollen), you'd want to see the doctor ASAP, as you might have an infection of some kind. Good luck - PJH
