Q: what is dry rough patches around the nipple

Geraldine, this could be any number of things. Have you changed your laundry detergent lately? Or the soap or bath gel you use? Is it on both breasts, or just one? If it's both, it's probably something topical that'll disappear fairly quickly. If it's one breast, keep your eye on it, and see if it worsens. A couple of rare forms of breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer and Paget's disease, can sometimes begin with a vague symptom like this. If it doesn't disappear in a week or so, and/or seems to get worse, please have a doctor take a look. Good luck - PJH
