I always maintained I did not want kids, but this was never off the table. When I take the Tamoxifen, is this it?

Will it be like menopause? And if so, will they give me HRT? What are the most common side-effects of Tamoxifen?

Please read our tamoxifen FAQS, Peggie - and it actually makes you MORE fertile. You shouldn't lose your period while you're on it; and once you're done, you should be all set for trying to become a mom... if you decide that's the direction you want to go. They won't give you HRT while you're on tamoxifen, as HRT increases estrogen levels, while tamoxifen is trying to disable estrogen - they'd be at cross purposes. Good luck - PJH

Oh? Really? Sorry, so many things swirling around...

But I was certain my doc said it would shut down my ovaries?

Tamoxifen? Never heard of it shutting down ovaries... It does prevent estrogen from bonding with breast cancer cells, thus shutting off what they need to grow - that's how it works. Maybe ask your onco again? PJH
