Q: I recently found a lump in my left breast, before that a DARk purple bruise, I havent bumped it

Recently, I found a lump in my left breast.  It was days before, that I noticed my breast had a very dark bruise, about 4 inches around on the inside of my breast and about 2 inches that was yellow.  I had a mammo in nov for a small lump and that one is still there, but now a larger also.   The thing is, I didnt bump my breast or fall on it, I cant say how the bruise got there, it was like it showed up!  I was mortified.  I see a breast dr on monday, but am nervous.  I have also, warmth and itchiness there a lot too!  Any ideas?  I am 38 and had a hysterectomy in 2004 due to endometriosis, that worries me a bit more!

Hi - First of all, don't make the connection between the endometriosis, and breast cancer; it's not there. So put that out of your mind. As for the breast discoloration, not sure what's going on there. If the warmth/itchiness is a recent symptom (e.g., in the past couple of weeks), it could be a sign of a rare form of breast cancer, inflammatory breast cancer. But it could be any number of other things, too. I'm glad you're seeing the doctor Monday. Till then, try to stay positive and relax. Your earlier mammogram was fine, so these symptoms are probably all related to something other than cancer. Good luck - PJH
