Q: Breast Cancer and Hormones

Hi, I posted awhile back regarding IBC and being scared of having that because I had small pimply type marks on my breast.  Well, my mammogram is Thursday and I am no longer worried about that, however my OBGYN did a hormone test because I haven't had my period for 3 months and my hormone levels are consistent with someone in menopause.  I'm 43 and she stated it is a bit early however has happened.  So I was told I'm in menopause and my question to her was "do you think something like breast cancer could make my hormones low" and she said "no."  What do you think?  I'm still terrified of having my mammogram.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Shelly - breast cancer definitely won't cause a change in your hormone levels. I'm sorry you're so frightened about this mammogram... at least it'll be over with soon, right? You might want to read our post on fear - I think it'll help you deal with this waiting. Good luck tomorrow - PJH
