Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, January 04, 2011 Renee asks

Q: Hi Everyone - My sister has Stage 4 recurrent Breast Cancer with Spine & bone metastisis in 8 spots. She is getting radiation for inoperable tumor on her spine & Hormone therapy is no longer working.

They want her to start chemo and she is in so much pain and doesn't believe she can even withstand the effects of chemo. Last time, she was vomitting every half hour and she would never survive that now. Are there any other options to chemo at this stage? And if not, any thoughts on timing and quality of life issues would be most appreciated. Renee

Hi Renee - I'm so sorry your sister (and you) are going through this; stage 4 is very tough... Please read our posts on metastatic disease, which you'll find links to at this page on survivorship. I think it'll help you figure out what's going on, and how to deal with it as best you can. Take care- PJH
