Q: my mom has metastatic breast cancer spread to ovaries.there is a pelvic mass.before the surgry,my oncologist told to have donataxel with epirubicin to shrink the mass.are the above drugs effective?

the pelvic mass has invaded the sigmoid colon and rectum also hydronephrosis in right kidney.chemotherapy will continue for 4 doses and then they will do the surgery.will hydronephrosis become normal after 1st dose?will the drugs shrink the mass?please answer.thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about the spread of your mother's breast cancer.  We are patient experts here, which means that we are breast cancer survivors well-read on breast cancer, but certainly not as knowledgeable as your mom's oncologist.  I can tell you that those drugs are effective chemotherapies and that the current trend in the treatment of aggressive cancers is to do chemo first to reduce the size of the tumor to make surgery more effective and to kill any cancer cells that have spread.  I hope these drugs work well for her.
