Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, September 23, 2010 Dan asks

Q: I am a 61-yr old who was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic prostate cancer last year. I have been receiving hormone treatments since 6/09. What would be my normal life expectancy?

The cancer has spread significantly through my lymph nodes, even though the prostate tumor itself has shrunk. From what I read, I have somewhere between 16 and 36 months (avg) from time of diagnosis. My doctors at VA are reluctant to give me a prognosis, but I need to know how best to prepare. Any guidelines you can give me?
