Q: I have a discolored area on my left breast that is fading slowly over a few months no other syptoms

I called my Dr shortly after noticing it and he said to come in if it did not disappear in a few weeks. It was still there and I went in - he said he felt that I had a fungal infection that was clearing up.

I forgot about it - there is no pain, itching, swelling, redness or warmth. It still continues to fade although slowly. When I sleep or take a bath it fades so that it is mildly noticeable. During the day it is now a pink color with some white spots starting to show - Creams do make it fade temporarily and pressure makes it turn white for a moment.

I am concerned since it has been almost 4 months and the discoloration is still present that this may be IBC and I should try another Dr.

SInce IBC syptoms seem to vary - am worried. Please let me know what this could be or what I should do next. Thanks.

Sierra, usually IBC symptoms would stay the same or get worse.  Fungal infections can be very hard to get rid of completely.  I know that when I've had one, I tend to stop using the cream when it gets better, and then the symptoms pop back up because I didn't use the treatment faithfully for the full prescribed time.  My husband has also had the problem of having skin issues misdiagnosed by his primary care doctor and later getting the correct diagnosis and treatment from a dermatologist.  Skin rashes are notoriously difficult to diagnose.  I really don't think you need to panic about IBC, but you do need to be sure you are using the right treatment in the right way for your discoloration.  You might want to see a dermatologist to be sure that the fungal infection diagnosis is correct.  And, of course, if you do develop swelling, redness and/or pain, go back to the doctor and ask for a more thorough diagnostic work-up.
