My Breasts hurt extremely bad, my period was over like two weeks ago

I have recently found a lot of lumps in my breasts.  I went to the doctor and she scheduled me a mammogram.  I missed the appointment and I'm still waiting for a new one but my breasts have been extremely sore, and it's not like the pain from period or breastfeeding or lactating.  Its more of an excrutiating pain whether I touch them or not, with a bra it hurts and without it hurts even more.  At first I thought I was pregnant, but I had my period two weeks ago and it was abnormally heavy, someone said stress.  I don't know what's going on.  Plus the pain has gotten worse by the day. Someone help?

Hi Sheridon - Since the pain is in both breasts, this most probably isn't a sign of breast cancer. Sounds like you have some pretty heavy hormonal issues going on. I wouldn't wait long for the mammogram; I'd go to your PCP and tell him/her you need to deal with this pain sooner rather than later. Maybe an ultrasound would help in the meantime, or maybe they can move you up on the mammogram schedule. Good luck - PJH
