Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Monday, October 20, 2008 Concerned asks

Q: I have had soreness/pain on the side of my left breast just under my arm pit for years.

I had it checked a couple of years ago by a surgeon who said it was glanular tissue.  Here it is years later and the pain persists.  I worry because two of my mothers sisters have had breast cancer.  Is there something to worry about?

Hi - Pain isn't generally a sign of breast cancer, especially since you've had it for years. If it was cancer, it would have developed into something else by now. I'd get a second opinion from another doctor, though; why live with pain if you don't need to? Maybe someone else can find out what it is and treat it. Good luck - PJH
