Q: I went to have a mammogram and the radiologist wanted an ultrasound. It came back breast mass BI-RAD 4. Dr. going to remove large breast mass. What exactly does BI-RAD 4 mean. Is it breast cancer?

Kaye, BI-RAD is a system that radiologists use to classify what they see on mammograms and other imaging tests.  BI-RAD 4 means that there is a possibility that the mass is cancer and that it needs to be biopsied.  You probably won't know for sure until after a pathologist examines the tissue whether your mass is cancerous or benign.  I hope you get good news.
