I have had a double mastectomy, one in 1998 and one in 2005. None of my medical records refer to 'estrogen sensitive' and now in order to treat my menopausal systems, the doctor wants to know this information before prescribing meds.

Hi Fay - Did you ever take tamoxifen? That would be a sign that your cancer was estrogen-sensitive... The informaiton would have been in your pathology report. Is there any way for you to go back to where you had at least one of the mastecotmies, and request that the medical records of your pathology report be turned over to you? That would be the failsafe way to tell. At any rate, with your history of breast cancer, I'd be very wary of taking hormone replacement therapy, as it's been shown to increase the risk of breast cancer. Even with a double mastectomy, you still need to be careful, as you still have breast tissue remaining, if only an infinitesimal amount. Good luck to you - PJH
