Q: My 12 year old daughter is complaining of an itchy RT breast, with small lumps and some pain

My 12 year old daughter is complaining of an itchy RT breast, I assessed both breasts and noted the RT breast has small lumps/ rash present on the RT aerola, she states that the RT breast feels warm in comparison to the LT breast and that the pain feels more like a burning.  There is no significant redness in comparison to the LT, no discharge, no peeling or flakiness. Any suggestions???

Hi Melissa - The chance of her having breast cancer is WAY less than 1 in a million, so don't worry about that. She could have a minor infection, or perhaps her hormones are kicking in... At any rate, she should be seen by a doctor if this persists longer than a week or so - and certainly if it starts to get worse. So have her keep an eye on it, and tell her to let you know if it's changing - getting better or worse, etc. Good luck - PJH
