Pain isn't usually a sign of breast cancer; but it can be a symptom of fibrocystic change, which affects many women in their 20s and 30s. You may have a cyst that's grown large enough to hurt; or, even though you're on birth control, it may be hormonal. If the pain lasts another few weeks, you might want to contact the doctor to see what's up; any breast change (including pain) lasting longer than a month should be checked out.

Unless you have a close relative (mom, sister, daughter) with breast cancer, then you don't need to worry too much about cancer "running in the family." Other cancers don't increase your risk for breast cancer. Please read our post on family history and breast cancer for more information. Take care - hope the pain disappears on its own soon. PJH

Thank you very much,Wink that helps me out alot by not worring so much.. yea i do have a dr. appt now, but i still am some what nervous. By the way, my mom just passed in feb of this year from cancer. They first found a tumor on the side of her right breast close to her ribs. They took it out, but come to find out,,,i guess it had spreaded all over and they also found a tumor on her brain. Frownsadly she passed 1 year later. she was only 46. When i was 19 i had 3rd stage pre cell cancer on my cervix and i  had lazer surgery to remove them. Also 5 years ago i had a big syst on the top of my head cut out by a dr. i now have a new one forming but my dr. said he did'nt want to mess with it right now till it becomes worse or painfull. LOL what i'm getting at here, is,,,there is some little history of ; out of wack cells;Undecided how ever you would put it. and i'm realy serious on this feeling that i'm haveing right now.  But you are the second person that has told me that it does not seem like cancerous. i feel so much better now.  i'm  defently going to my appointment,  IN 2 WEEKS!!!!! as being a single mother with 6 children, with the stress on thinking," im gonna die, or OMG my kids are going to loose me.  OR, "now i'm not going to be here to see my kids finish growing up!!!!! I"TS driveing me CRAZYTongue out 2 weeks is a long time to waite to find out if i'm be here for my kids untill GOD is ready for me,,OR just get plowed by having no choise at all!!! AGAIN thank you so much for you time i soooo apprieciatte it.

Well, your mom passing at age 46 from breast cancer does raise your risk. But the odds are still very much in your favor that this is NOT cancer. With those six dear kids to watch over, though, you definitely need to take every precaution. So, try to keep busy with other things for the next two weeks. And, when you have your appointment, be sure the doctor knows your mom passed away from BC when she was 46, OK? That fact may play into the equation of how much testing they want to do. Best of luck to you - PJH
