Q: i found a small lump in my left breast , . odd shape and has a shaddow, ,

i found a hard lump in my left breast- about 10o'clock from the nipple, i have seen the doctor she said depending on the shape and sent me for an ultrasound, i had the ultrasound he said it was an odd shape and has a shaddow, he even got a more advanced camera to look, he said i will prob be sent to have a radiology scan or something like that, i am now worried it isnt a minor thing like a cist and is a more major thing, do you think i should be worried it is major as i will have to have more tests done the ultra sound guy was worried and wished me the best of luck

Hannah, you're doing the exact right thing - tracking down whatever this is by going through a series of diagnostic tests. You might have a mammogram next - that would make sense. But, even if the mammogram shows something, and you need a biopsy - about 85% of biopsies are negative. So the odds are totally with you that this is NOT cancer. Try not to stress too much, OK? It's natural that you're scared, but worry doesn't do anything besides make you feel bad. And remember, the stats are on your side. Good luck - PJH

Hannah, I think you should be delighted that you have an excellent medical team who are going to find out exactly what this is.  It's normal to worry about an unknown lump in your body, but as PJ says even most lumps that need to be biopsied are benign.  When I've had to go through a series of tests like what you are going through now, I've found it helps to stay busy and as close to my usual routine as possible.  It's good that you were able to find the lump yourself and take the necessary steps to find out what it is.
