She will need to talk to her doctor about her prognosis. It will depend on the characteristics of the tumor and how extensive the spread is. It is important for patients finding out that they have a Stage IV diagnosis to know that these days people can survive for years with a good quality of life. I even know some people whose bones mets were treated so successfully that they currently show no evidence of disease. The more typical situation is that Stage IV patients remain in treatment closely followed by their doctors. Often the spread of the disease can be stopped or slowed.
