Hi - No, tamoxifen isn't considered chemotherapy. Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill as many cancer cells as quickly as possible, and is a first-line treament for cancer - i.e., it's used in the first stages of treatment. Hormone therapy, such as tamoxifen, is used once active treament is over, to help prevent a recurrence. It works by preventing any potential cancer cells from developing, usually by preventing them from getting the nourishment they need. Chemo typically lasts 3 to 6 months; hormone therapy, 5 to 10 years. Hope this helps - PJH
