No period in two years now bleeding

Susan Prange
07/09/09

Hello, I am a 49 yr old female, I have diabetes, controlled high blood pressure and have not had a period in almost two years. I have the cramps, and  not a flowing period but was blood on my underware and some in the toliet when I went to the bathroom. My doctor is off this week and so I was just wanting to know if this could be just a fluky thing, or could this be serious.

Susan, a change in your health like this needs to be checked out by the doctor.  It may well be some minor spotting that is nothing to worry about, but I bet you'll feel a bit anxious until you hear the doctor reassure you.  Since your doctor is off this week, why don't you check with whoever is on call and talk with that person.  Unless you start heavy bleeding, this wouldn't be considered an emergency issue, so you might want to schedule an appointment for when your doctor gets back.  That way you'll be talking to someone who knows your whole medical history.  If you start heavy bleeding, you'll want to be seen sooner by whoever fills in for your doctor.
