Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Saturday, August 23, 2008 Mary asks

Q: I am taking arimidex following breast cancer. Will Releana or HCG have adverse effects ?

I want to start a physician supervised weight loss program that uses Releana or HCG.

I am taking arimidex to block estrogen because my tumor was estrogn positive.

I understand Releana and HCG are hormones  Will taking one of these hormone's for 8 weeks counter the effect of arimidex or increase my chances of the cancer returning?

Mary, the key here is "physician supervised" - You MUST have both the doctor supervising your diet, and your oncolgist, sign off on whatever the diet entails, including anything you take, like hormones. Considering the hcG diet has been labeled a "scam" by at least some physicians, you might have a hard time getting that signoff. Bottom line: don't take any medication/hormone without checking with your oncologist, who'll let you know if it'll affect Arimidex's effectiveness. Good luck - PJH
