Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, January 26, 2010 Brittj11 asks

Q: 24 with breast lump. One removed already. Should I be concerned.

I am 24.  When I was 17 I found a small lump in my left breast that was removed and found to be fibrocystic breast tissue.  I found another lump 2 years later which the ultrasound and mammogram showed nothing.  The lump is still there and feels hard and dose not move when paplated.  How concerned should I be?  My mother had two fibroadenomas removed when she was in her 30's.  Only other history if breat CA is my fathers sister.  How concerned should I be?

If you're concerned, why not get it checked again? A lump that you've been feeling for 2 years is probably not cancr, as it would have grown significantly by now. Still, it's obvious you're worried; so turn that energy you're spending on worry into action, and call the doctor. By the way, your aunt having breast cancer and your mother having fibroadenomas doesn't increase your risk... Good luck. PJH
