Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 KurtisRBell asks

Q: My wife has stage 4 Breast Cancer

Why is it called stage 4 if she is has a good prog.

Metatisis into bones and liver...if you ask her she is going to live forever...and is somewhat planning on kids.

Her doc says she has reached the median of life expect..

What am I in for...can she die of metasis?  She is on Chemo right now and its keeping the meta at bay.  She is real healthy but gets chemo once every 2 weeks.

Will the chemo one day stop working?

Kurtis, with stage IV, there's just no telling what's going to happen. Of course, it's very serious; yes, death is a possibility. That said, wome women do very well with treatment, and live quite awhile with this diagnosis. And remember, treatment is getting better and better all the time; so long as she continues to do well, there's always another "next best thing" coming down the pike to help her even more. Sounds like you have some quesitons that only her doctor can answer, so I suggest you make a list, and ask them at her next appointment, OK? Good luck to you both - PJH
