Hi - From your description, this doesn't sound like a breast cancer symptom; cancerous lumps are seldom visible on the surface of your skin. The vast majority of breat lumps are nothing to worry about; and even if you get to biopsy stage, about 85% of biopsies are negative - no cancer. So the odds are definitely on your side.

If the lump doesn't seem to getting better after several days on antibiotics - and definitely if it seems to be getting worse - see your doctor. It could be you have an infection that's not responding to the particular antibiotic they're giving you. Hope this resolves soon - PJH

As PJ says, this doesn't sound like breast cancer, and the nurse practitioner's prescription of an antibiotic suggests that she doesn't think it is breast cancer either.  However, do follow her suggestion for a follow-up visit with your own doctor who will have all your medical records and who can make sure that the antibiotic worked properly.
