Debbie, surprisingly the answer is - not likely. It's VERY unusual, almost unheard of, to have multiple cancerous tumors in both breasts at once. To me (and I'm no medical expert), it sounds like fibrocystic breast disease, which results in lots and lots of breast cysts. Ultrasound should be able to tell you pretty certainly if they're cysts or tumors - did they let you know anything more about them, other than that there were 6 in each breast? I hope you hear more soon, because I'm feeling you're going to get some good news about this. Good luck- PJH

Debbie I'm sorry to hear this!  Was this a follow up to having a lump at your lumpectomy site?  Did they tell you what the lump you previously described was?  Because the multiple lumps, as PJ said, sound like fibrocystic breast - or basically lumpy breast tissue.  I learned I had this after found out I had cancer and had a mastectomy.  When I finished up chemo I noticed a lump in my opposing breast.  I had it checked and the ultrasound tech told me I had extremely lumpy tissue and she was having problems finding what I felt cause it all felt lumpy.  I went through 2 more scares when I finally decided to have it removed as I was having reconstruction anyway and this way I would get matching implants.  I couldn't take the obssessive worrying each time I thought I felt something.  Mentally it is just something that is really hard to deal with once you've already been through cancer.

I would suggest an ultrasound and possibly a PET scan or Chest CT scan/MRI to help give a better image of what this lumps might be.

Good luck!

Angi
