Nannette, I'd get this looked at by a doctor. It could be any number of things, including an infection. It sounds like a lymph node issue—somehow those underarm nodes aren't doing their job and fluid is backing up. At any rate, it's definitely something you should take care of as soon as possible, OK? Nannette, I agree with PJ.  Make an appointment today to see the doctor.  If the swelling just started a day or two ago and if you are not running a fever, you can probably wait for the first available appointment.  If you have had the problem for longer than a menstrual cycle, then ask to be seen right away.  As PJ points out swollen lymph nodes are usually a sign of infection, but it sounds like your breast is involved too.  A swollen breast can sometimes be a sign of cancer, so be assertive about getting this checked out.
