BJ, lumps that turn out to be cancer often aren't painful; the only way youknow they're there is that you can feel the mass. On the other hand, a painful lump doesn't necessarily rule out that it's cancer. Any new lump that doesn't come and go with your menstrual cycle should be checked out.
