Hair shaving
Hi Ladies,
I would like to ask this question I know it may sound silly but anyway I can make any decision need 2nd opinion, its my 15 days after my 1st chemo and my hair is starting to fall
and is it better to shave all or just cut it really, really short but not shaving it.. my hair is thick and short right now. I have a shaver at home do you think I can shave it. like do it yourself
please need your reply and thanks again for putting up some of my silly question.
Not silly at all! I chose to cut my hair short; then, when it really started to seriously come out, my husband shaved my head completely bald. It seems harsh at first; you'll shed tears. But you'll get used to it, I promise. And it's fun guessing what it'll look like when it grows back! I trust you have your coverage planned - hat, wig, scarves, or nothing at all? Keep in mind that if you live somewhere cold, your shoulders/neck (as well as your head) may be unexpectedly cold; amazing how much your hair insulates those areas. Best of luck - you'll get through this. PJH

Hi Unforgettable, I did the same. I had long dark hair and hung on to it for 21 days. I even thought I may be the first to not lose their hair. No such luck,,,first the burning and the itching then the falling. I also cut it short and then my husband came along with the razor. I bought a selection of wigs (as I am not a scarf person )in different colours. My hair is just returning and to my surprise it is blonde and curly...not sure I like it but will wait and see how it develops. In between time I am still wearing my dark wigs. I am not sure that my husband is ready for a blonde bombshell just yet. Heck I am not sure I am...lol

Hi Ironside,
thanks for your reply, actually I did it in my own. I cut my hair with the use of razor.( I have 2 shih-tzu and they have a very nice razor I cut their hair every summer so I clean and cut my hair. I shed tears while doing it' but at the same time I smile while looking at the mirror. I said "hey it's a long journey try to keep it up and everything will be ok.. so I took a shower put make up and drove and go to a mall and bought something for myself
and celebrate. As we always know. 'Life is too short lets enjoy every minute of it. love one another.. as time goes by.. life is unpredictable.. but I see to it that I will always be positive in every way.. I am planning to buy a wig soon. as a matter of fact I spend so much with nice scarf and hats (too much hat) now wig time.. I love the curly wig? what do you think .. I can't believe its blonde and curly
while you are dark hair?
it's ok.. just love it anyways, thanks again .. hope to hear from you soon.

I washed my hair off in the shower and it was the most empowering experience of my life. It was proof of my own strength and courage. After that i was able to face all the nasties in my treatment with confidence.
By the way, when it grows back, it's such a joyous experience that it's almost worth having it fall out in the first place - almost! I loved the softness of my new hair and would sit and stroke it, often checking my hand to make sure it wasn't falling out again!
Best of luck in your war on breast cancer, and may you enjoy many more victories along the way.

Hard question to answer, Unforgettable. Everyone is different. I had AC chemo and my hair started to grow again just before the 4th treatment. It continued to grow during 12 weekly Taxols. I didn't lose eyebrows or eyelashes, though they may have thinned a little. My hair came back white, then grey then blonde, with a few curls and baby-soft. It feels lovely.
I looked up your chemo regime and hair loss and most women report hair coming back when the treatment finishes.
With the Taxotere (D) part of your treatment, watch out for peripheral neuropathy. The taxanes destroy the nerve linings in your fingers and toes, causing numbness and tingling. Make sure you report it to your doctor if it happens. Keep your feet well moisturised and go barefoot as much as possible. Avoid tight shoes.
Also ask about weekly Taxol and why your doctor has chosen 3-weekly Docetaxel. Weekly Taxol seems to be more effective and has easier side effects.
Herceptin is easy. I just get the sniffles. Make sure they give you regular MUGA tests while you are taking Herceptin to check that your heart is OK.
Stay strong and positive. You are already finding out how strong and brave you are. You rock!!
Love and best wishes
Sue

I am energized again.. anyways, I dont feel fatigued so with my 1st chemo I was ok not too much side effect.. I dont know now with my 2nd chemo. hope still the same.. before my chemo I see to eat I drink a lot of water and make ginger (fresh one) boil it and drink with little brown sugar.. and I have ginger candy (organic) so I didnt throw up at all . hope and pray everything is ok with me for my 2nd chemo.. thanks for all your tips. I will mention that to my doctor regarding my Herceptin. I dont know how they call here, I know they call that in the states..MUGA' I am from Canada and I really dont know how they call it. but I have one before my 1st chemo. then they said I have to finished my 3rd chemo ;then I will have another test. so I will all mention this to my oncologist. you know what I noticed and what side effect I have . its seems that I have a foggy brain
on the 16th days of my 1st chemo. I would like to ask something for I forgot
