Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, March 18, 2010 WillFightIt asks

Q: Any reliable place to get information regarding diff chemo drugs?

I will be starting chemo soon, if my surgery goes well and they find little or no cancer left after the neoadjuvant clinical trial that I was on..I would get to choose between different chemo options. I was wondering if there is any resource out there where I can get some reliable information regarding the effectiveness of different chemo drugs and their long term and short term side effects.

Hi - Are you sure you get to make a choice here? I've never heard of a woman being able to choose her chemo drugs; usually the oncologist decides which drugs will be most effective, and the patient goes with his/her decision. If you want to research chemo side effects and how each drug works, however, you can start right here on this site with our Chemo FAQS , where we explore all of the most prevalent drug "cocktails." Good luck - PJH

heheh...may be 'choose the chemo' was a poor choice of words..:)..but my oncologist said she will work with me..on deciding what would be best under the given circumstances.

If I have significant disease left...I have to go with ACT, no two ways about it...but if the cancer is completely gone or only a trace remains...I might be able to go with say TCH....so just wanted some info on these drugs in order to be able to talk intelligently with my oncologist...and understand better what those options meant...:)

Thanks for answering my question Ms. Hamel..will read up Chemo FAQs

Ah, I get it - makes sense. You've been doing that clinical trial, so your path is probably much different than normal. Well, hope the FAQS help you make your decision - best of luck to you. PJH
