Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 Tina, Community Member, asks

Q: Why would both of my breast be sore and swollen?

For about a month, both of my breast have been swollen, sore, very tender, and hurt.  I am not on any medication and don't feel any lumps.  I don't have any discoloration or discharge.  What could be causing my breast to swell and be very sore and tender?  If it is just hormonal, why would I need to go to the doctor?

Tina, since it's both your breasts, it would be very unlikely it's cancer. However, if it's unrelenting - e.g., doesn't come and go with your period - I'd think you'd want to get checked out, if only to relieve your pain. Is there a chance you could be pregnant? PJH
