Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Monday, December 13, 2010 Sunrey13 asks

Q: My husband was diagnosed with limited small cell lung cancer 3 years ago.

After agressive treatment he was declared cancer-free and has been told he still is...however, he just had an ultrasound that showed gallstones (that we already knew about) but doesn't seem to have any symptoms. His MD's office just informed him that they have made an appt for him this week to see a general surgeon about this.  Should we be worried?  No explanation was given. Why would she recommend he see a surgeon when she told him the ultrasound came out fine and he only has gallstones?  He told her he doesn't have any symptoms and was told several years ago that he had them.

Now I'm worried that his cancer has spread.

Someone please respond.  He has no idea I have posted this but he is very anxious now.

Thanks!

Hi - This is a breast cancer site and we're not doctors, simply breast cancer survivors, so we wouldn't be able to help you with your husband's health issues. But, the question you'd want to ask the doctor is, where can lung cancer spread to? If it's like breast cancer, it can only spread to certain very specific places, and gallbladder might not be one of them. Also, perhaps the gallstones are getting so large/numerous that, even without symptoms, the doctor thinks it might be time to get them out? Good luck - hope things work out for you. PJH

Hi there,

I'm part of a site that is a support group for people dealing with all kinds of cancers and lung cancer is one of them. My own father was recently diagnosed and this site has provided me with so information, answers and support from real people who are battling, friends and family of loved ones battling the disease and people who have battled and won against all odds.

Check it out at http://www.inspire.com/groups/lung-cancer-survivors/new/

God Bless!
