Q: ARE VITAMINS A GOOD IDEA WITHCANCER?

IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO TAKE VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS DURING CHEMO AND RADIATION TREATMENT AND IF SO WHICH ONES ARE NEEDED MOST?

Cynthia, there's no special need for extra vitamins during treatment. A good multivitamin, which you should probably be taking anyway, should give you everything you need. Vitamin C can help ward off colds, as well. And post-treatment, be sure you have sufficient vitamin D3 and calcium, for bone health; if chemo brings on menopause, your bones will start to lose mass and the calcium and vitamin D will help. Cynthia, be sure to discuss any supplements with your doctor.  My oncologist was OK with a regular multi-vitamin, but said that large doses of some vitamins actually work against chemo.  Since everyone has a slightly different health history and treatment plan, only your oncologist can tell you what's best for you.  My current oncologist has a dietician to help patients with food and supplement issues.
