Naija, since the doctor checked this out, the lump is probably nothing to worry about.  Most lumps, even in older women, are not cancer; and teenagers almost never have breast cancer.  There are lots of "lumpy" areas under the arms where we have lots of lymph nodes.  Read our Teen Guide to Breast Development for more information.  Check the lump about once a month, not every day, and if you notice a drastic change that lasts a month, check back in with the doctor.

Naija, please don't stress over breast cancer. At your age, your chance of having breast cancer is so tiny that statistically speaking, it's 0%. I think the doctor is right; this lump is probably part of puberty, just your breast naturally growing and changing. Please read our Teen Guide to Breast Development for more information, which I think you'll find reassuring. And, have you told your mother? Maybe she can help you assess the situaiton, and see what else might be done about your fear... just a thought. Good luck - PJH
