Q: Mamogram

I had a mamogram and they called me back in for additional pictures.  The say I have an area that needs to be biopsied.  They said it could be fatty.  what is the chances of cancer

Hi - About 85% of breast biopsies do NOT show cancer, so you have about a 15% chance of your biopsy indicating cancer. Good luck to you - hope it turns out well. PJH

No matter what they tell you, be sure you go and get the WRITTEN radiological write-up from your mammogram.  Don't settle for the letter that comes back finally saying, return in one year.  When I did finally see my radiologist's report for 18 months prior, I saw that indeed he DID see a mass and by the time I saw the report it was too late - I had breast cancer.  I slipped through the cracks of the medical system. And yes, the vast majority of "call backs" are benign. Good luck!

update they called to tell me my biopsie is on the 27th and that the area is small and spiculated....what is spiculated and why is that a greater concern>?
