Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Friday, October 23, 2009 Tijuanna asks

Q: I have a small whole just below my collar bone. It drains puss that smells like sweat.

Under my right arm pit I had been sweating heavily. The doctors found a lump there. I have been scheduled to have a mamogram ASAP. Should I be concerned? I have an aunt who has calcification of her right breast. Could this be genetic???

The doctor wants more information about that lump.  It's really too early to worry.  I assume that the doctor had some ideas about what to do about the draining pus, and that you have been started on some sort of treatment for that.  Even if it turns out that you need a biopsy, most breast lumps turn out to be bengin.  It sounds like you have a good doctor who is going to do a thorough job of investigating what is happening to you.  Just take it all one step at a time.  Your aunt's calcifications would probably not be a risk factor to you, unless she was diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age.

Sorry, I misspelled benign.  (See above.)  I hope you get good news from the mammogram.
