Hi - Fibrocystic breasts are common in many younger women. They're overgrown breast tissue that IS NOT cancer - just growing a bit too fast and becoming lumpy and/or umcofortable. Fibroadenomas (the lumps) don't turn into breast cancer; but they sometimes make it harder to interpret mammograms, which is probably why she wants you to have an ultrasound. Also, ultrasounds can tell if something is a cyst, raterh than a fibroadenoma. So go ahead with the ultrasound; hopefully it'll clarify your situation. Good luck - PJH
