Louise, this could be hormonal; or it could be a cyst growing. Please read our post on fibrocystic change, to see if that information helps any. If you continue to feel this bruised feeling for several weeks, I'd ask a doctor about it, as there's a very small chance it could be an early sign of inflammatory breast cancer. If it gets worse – if your breast seems infected (red, hot, swollen, painful, or a rash appears), then I'd see a doctor sooner. It's always good to be aware of breast changes, and have them checked out if they don't disappear, so kudos to you for paying attention to this. Good luck - PJH
