Amy, your armpit is filled with lymph nodes.  Sometimes one can become swollen as your body fights an infection.  Sometimes a swollen lymph node can be a sign of cancer.  Not every lump in the armpit is a lymph node.  Sometimes a harmless cyst can develop there.  It's a good idea to check with the doctor about any breast or armpit changes that last longer than a month.  I wouldn't say that this is a problem to worry about because probably the cause is benign.  It is a sign that needs to be checked out.  Read this article about armpit lumps for more background information.
