Just Diagnosed with Cancer? Chat with Experts

Thursday, October 16, 2008 Jaz asks

Q: My left breast burns/hot swollen with light discharge. Can this be a sign of breast cancer?

For a couple of months my left breast burned not as bad as now, with sharp pains that shoot down to my stomach and back. I had been told it could just be a muscle pain. Now it feels worst and I also have a light discharge, my breast is swollen/hot and burns all the time, but the pain fades. Can this be a sign of breast cancer?

Hi Jaz - Anytime you have significant breast changes, they should be checked out. Sounds like your symptoms are getting worse; with a swollen, hot breast, you should definitely see the doctor ASAP. It could be an infection, or it could be a sign of breast cancer. But whatever it is, it needs to be checked. Good luck - PJH
