Q: My left tissue expander has started to shift down. I just noticed today. Is that a problem?

I have had saline added three times since my operation. My BM was performed on Sept. 23, 09 and now it's Nov. 22.

The expanders tend to shift and there's not much you can really do to stop it.  My surgeon used to tell me to massage it back into place, but it never helped any--still you should massage the expander just to help keep the tissue soft.  I know it can be a bit uncomfortable when the expander moves out of place, but when your doctor swaps them out for the implant he will likely build a pocket to hold them in place.  During my most of my reconstruction over the last 2 years, my left side was out of place.  It didn't affect the reconstruction process any.  The skin still stretched just fine.  Hang in there.

Good luck!
