Q: Relationship between plantar fasciitis and estrogen blockers and/or chemotherapy?

Ever since I started on aromasin after chemotherapy for breast cancer, my feet and legs hurt all the time. I've asked podiatrists and oncologists but noone knows of a relationship.

Angelyn, I'm surprised your oncologist had nothing to say about foot and leg pain related to Aromasin. Joint/bone pain is themost common side effect of aromatase inhibitors, of which Aromasin is one. Unfortunately, there's no way to allay this side effect; aspirin or Tylenol can help. I think there's a realtionship, somehow, between chemo and leg/foot pain, too. After chemo, but before starting on an AI, I had foot pain so bad I could barely walk. Three months of intensive Ibuprofen knocked it out, and now it's gone. I'd go back and ask your oncologist again about Aromasin and the joiont/bone pain side effect. If (s)he says "Never heard of it" -GET YOURSELF A NEW ONCOLOGIST. Quickly. Good luck - PJH

Angelyn, If the chemo you had included Taxol or Taxotere, another possible cause of your pain could be nerve damage from the taxane drug.  It's called neuropathy, and it's usually in the hands and feet, but I have heard some people say that theirs extended into their legs.  Like PJ, I'm surprised that your oncologist doesn't see this as a possible side effect of the Aromasin or chemo.  When I had plantar fascitis (from overuse--not cancer-related), the doctor prescribed exercises and stretches that helped tremendously.
