Hi Fran - If your left breast has always been bigger than your right, then it's natural for you - nothing to worry about as far as cancer is concerned. If this is a recent development, though - within the past couple of months - you should have it checked by a doctor, to find out why your left breast has suddenly grown larger.

Since it hurts more around your period, this would point to a hormonal issue, or to fibrocystic change; you might have a cyst that becomes more painful during the time around your period, when your breasts generally swell a bit anyway.

At any rate, since it's getting more painful, you might want to get checked by a doctor. This could be a pre-menopause symptom; or as I mentioned, it could be a cyst that might need to be drained. So see your doctor, OK? Take care- PJH
