CONSTANT PAIN IN LEFT NIPPLE

Topics:Breast Exam

I AM 41 YEARS OLD. I HAD A PAPILLOMA TUMOR REMOVED FROM MY LEFT BREAST 3 YEARS AGO. IT WAS BENIGN. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING PAIN IN THE SAME BREAST NIPPLE FOR SIX MONTHS. I HAD A MAMO AND VISIT TO BREAST SPECIALIST. I WAS TOLD HE COULD NOT SEE OR FEEL ANYTHING AND MY TESTS WERE FINE. IF IT PERSISTS FOR ANOTHER 2 MONTHS TO COME BACK AND REPEAT THE TESTS. IS THIS THE BEST PLAN OR SHOULD OTHER ACTION BE TAKEN. MY MOM PASSED AWAY 6 MONTHS AGO FROM KRUKENBERG TUMORS THROUGHOUT HER BODY. SHE WAS ONLY 70. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHERE HER CANCER BEGAN BECAUSE SHE WAS FILLED. IT MIGHT HAVE STARTED IN THE UTERINE, COLON OR GALLBLADDER. MY DOCTOR DID NOT THINK I WAS A HIGH RISK PATIENT. I THINK OTHERWISE. WHAT TESTS SHOULD I INSIST ON? WHEN SHOULD I GO BACK?  I ALSO HAVE A BROTHER 45 WHO WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THYMOMA CANCER 4 YEARS AGO.

Nora, if you're already under the care of a breast specialist, I'm not sure what any of us on this site could offer you. We're not medically trained, and aren't qualified to diagnose or offer treatment advice beyond the very general. My advice would be, if you don't trust the advice of your breast specialist, to ask him to refer you for a second opinion. Most doctors are happy to do this, as usually their opinion is confirmed. If you're terrifically worried, you might also try to see if you could get an appointment at one of the major cancer centers, such as M.D. Anderson in Houston or Sloan-Kettering in NYC. Sorry I couldn't offer more specific help. Good luck - PJH
